Worlds longest slowest 110 build thread
I'm probably around 13k into the 110.
I found a solid 110 to start with and I search the for sale threads and CL a lot to find the parts I can used. I also buy a lot of parts from Lucky8 as he has some of the best prices hands down on Land Rover parts. Most people don't know Lucky8 carries all the stock parts you need to work on your truck as well.
On my last order I picked up all new stock light lenses, bulkhead vent gaskets, thermostat and gasket, some coolant hoses and shocks. I've ordered all manner of gaskets and bits from him.
Always the same story when ordering with Justin at Lucky8:
1. I call, and we chat a bit
2. He answers my questions helping me get exactly what I need
3. He tells me pricing and availablity
4. I give him money
5. 2-3 days later a box shows up on my doorstep
6. Happy me goes and puts parts on
Any issues are handled extremely quickly and with no fuss.
110 ownership is really about patience I've found. It's easy to break out the Credit Card and spend spend spend. There is always something you want/need. I've been trying to stick to the need column for now. I watch the classifieds like a hawk for stuff I need at good prices. Or I take a trip to the junkyard and find what I need and fabricate to make it work. Like the seats. A 110 can be done on a budget, if you have realistic expectations and don't mind being called a cheap **** by other 110 owners

I have the impression that ALL Defenders in the US are solid for top $$$$$ so I half expected you would have paid at least $15k just for the 110 alone..... may I ask how much you paid for it?
Love what your doing, and love how you keep the British heritage alive in the vehicles you own and how you treat them. You inspire me to do the same with my current D2 and my future Rovers to come.
PS: If I ever get my hands on a Defender the first Mod I will need is something to raise the seats high enough so I can see over the high dashboard! I'm only 5 feet 2 inches. Thats the one thing I do not like about the Series/Defender models, the dash is so high up and the seats so far down...... time for a Booster!
Less than 13k
The seats I put in it, raised me 5 inches I would guess. I swapped out to a smaller steering wheel so I would have more room between my legs and the wheel.

and huh wha what.......nevermind.....

I always move my seat frames way back (6'6") problem with disco is all the junk under the seat. would you have had room to move back and not lose that second row knee space, completely?

Sorry. Just wondering how close your drivers seat back is to second row. Could you move back additional 4" if needed with out total loss of that knee space, in the 5 door interior set up?
It would probably be tight. Where my seat is set currently, a 34" inseam can drive it comfortably. You have to remember there is no real dash overhang to get in the way in the front of these. At your height though you would not want to go with seats as thick as mine.
With the stock style seats thought I would bet you'd be ok, as long as the person wasn't huge. Oddly in the 110 middle row leg room isn't as good as you would expect.
Triar,
110's can sell for a lot but it's all in the patience, I've seen a 3 door 110 200 tdi go for 10K.

110 5 doors can have more room for tall people, because I think most don't have a bulkhead behind the fronts seats. 3 doors (90 and 110) usually have a bulkhead that gets in the way of moving the seat back. Strangely enough, the tall guys install seat risers, that allow them to slide the seat back a couple more inches, because the bulkhead is angled slightly.
I guess air conditioning (if the underdash type) makes it even more difficult for tall people.
Julian, I think you'll be fine at your height, as long as you don't have a bonnet mounted spare. I'm a couple of inches taller and it still gets in the way a little bit when off road.

You are correct 110's that were 5 doors from the factory don't have the bulkhead. The seat box is raised so you would have to raise the seat to go back farther than standard. The mounts I fabbed up took that into account.
