I went to change my Defender 300tdi oil for the first time since I bought it in November and found quite a bit of leaking oil from a few different sources. I have attached pictures with red marking showing pools of oil. Two places in particular where I think the oil is coming from and spraying on the bell housing/under the oil pan:
1. There is a hose that connects just into the sump. Not sure what it's for ... maybe a turbo-related line? That seems to have quite a bit of oil
2 There is another hose that goes up into the engine bay and connects to somewhere by the alternator. The picture shows after I wiped away the oil but it had quite a bit of gunk around it. Not sure if that is also turbo related.
Thanks for your help! oil is pooling here and seems to be connected to a hose. this looks like it is leaking but im not sure what hose this is. The rest of the hose above this part is completely dry so I'm guessing the leak is here. Same as picture #2. Oil is pooling from what I suspect is a bad hose. There was quite a bit of gunk here and this shows after I cleaned it. Not sure what hose this is or where it connects. Same as picture #4 but zoomed out. What does this connect to? This is the oil under the car. Not sure if this is pooling/spraying or where this oil might be coming from. If you look closely, you can also see some blue coolant on the bell housing. No idea how coolant would make it down there.
Hoses look like they are coming off the power steering pump, the one you have pointed out would be the low pressure line.
Oil leaks can be difficult, it could be something as simple as a valve cover gasket leaking down along the back of the engine. I'd start by inspecting that area, oil likes gravity...so take care of the oil leaks from the top down. Front seal looks dry...unless you've cleaned that area recently. Your oil pan plug looks to be leaking slightly...new plug or gasket might solve that easily. You could scope up inside the bell-housing, through wadding plug hole, and see if rear seal is leaking.
