Angry sudden oil leak

My Land Rover has developed an oil leak, it has lost 1-2 quarts of oil in the last 2k miles. Their were no oil leaks present when I did the oil change 2k miles ago. I got under the truck today an found that the oil is coming from an oil line fitting that goes into the engine block right above the oil filter. I would like to know if it is a common problem and if their is a way of repairing it without having to replace the oil line. I don't think the fitting is loose, maybe I can loosen it up and use some type of sealant. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

That's the oil cooler hose, the fitting has an O ring and maybe that is shot. Replace the O ring and see if that solves it.

Thanks for the quick reply Bundu. I will check that out tomorrow. I am hoping it's the o ring and not the line.

On the positive side, the oil will coat the bottom of the truck and help stop rust. You will also be keeping fresh oil in it so it is almost like changing the oil as you drive.......Phil

Yea, I already thought about that. Does anybody know if the o ring is the same on both ends of the oil cooler line. I'd hate to get the wrong one after taking the connector apart.

You didn't happen to switch-over to a synthetic oil, did you?

No, I actually went from Mobil 1 10w 30 synthetic to Rotella 15w 40 conventional.

Makes me wonder if the higher oil pressure didn't finish off whatever part proves to be the source of the leak. Please keep us informed of how this goes...

This is the o ring http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/ESR1594L.cfm
Check with a local dealer, they are cheap enough to get at the dealer and then you should get the right part.

Bundu, thanks again for your help. I was also thinking about getting it at the dealer since it's such a cheap part. If I buy it online shipping might even be more than the cost of the part.
