Default Brake fluid leak?

Hello!

First things first; recently purchased my first Defender 110, 2.4l Tdi, 2009. I am kindly asking for some patience due to my lack of knowledge, I am currently at the bottom of the learning curve aiming to climb upwards!
I recently noticed that there seems to be something going on with the brake fluid reservoir. It looks like the reservoir has been steaming. I have figured that the brake fluid accumulates water over time due to its hydroscopic nature, and thought a bit about that. However, I suspect it is something completely different. Will attach a couple of photos.

Would be very grateful for all help on the matter!

Thanks in advance,
Andreas

Changing fluid is always a good place to start, especially if you don't know history. You definitely don't want moisture in the system. Seal on cap could be compromised, also.
