Default Defender 'electrical temperature' issue

My 'engine temperature' guage has gone faulty. As soon as you turn the car on from cold it goes to approx. mid way, then when it heats up to operating temperature the needle reads 'hot'. I have checked the engine and it is DEFINITELY NOT overheating.

I have changed over the Thermostat and also the Thermister.

Is this the temperature guage itself or a resistor fault?
