Hissing noise when accelerating past 2500rpm
Hi,
My defender 110 Puma has recently had a brand new turbo put in after the previous one blew up due to a blocked exhaust manifold. After replacement, whenever we accelerate past 2,500rpm we get a loud hissing sound of air releasing. However, no check-engine light or loss of power. It seems to come from the air intake but we are not sure. Today, we have replaced the lower part of the air intake connecting to the snorkel and the housing for the air filter. The sound has reduced but is still there. Has anyone experienced the same or has any suggestions or ideas? We also noticed a small crack on the intercooler housing and are getting that replaced now. According to our mechanic, there is no guarantee though that this will also stop the hissing noise.
Any thoughts are highly appreciated.
Thanks :-)

If they replaced the exhaust manifold, maybe they didn't get the head complete cleaned off, leaving some pieces of old gasket or didn't get new gaskets installed correctly...and it is exhaust gases...causing a high pitch whistle.
Typically, if you have a leak between inner cooler and turbo...you'll lose boost and have a noticable power lose...and it will be more of a hissing sound when you accelerate.
