immobilisation problems as10 ecu deftd5
hi all,
im new here, just got my nanocom, and need help. I live on Bonaire, so no specialized garage around here.
the story: my defender 130 td5 2002 is stuck for months. all at once it did not start anymore, nothing, no fuel pump, no crancking. Got it towed to a garage. Few weeks later, they told me, yeah, maybe the ecu, we dont know. Got it towed to a second garage. they told me 'if we cant fix it, you better push it in the ocean". few weeks later nothing. Got it towed to my home again, i have to fix it myself.
I got a secondhand ecu from belgium. Put it in, nothing. The ecu has to learn the coding from the as10 unit. No nanocom on the island here, so i bought that. few weeks later i got it.
Thats where i am now.
- new ecu is in, fuel pump works.
- the red engine light on the dash is always on
- no crancking
- the fobs do work, reprogrammed.
- the learning thing to the ecu went "ok", but the ecu stays immobilized
- with the nanocom i can get readings from as10 and ecu
what the f is wrong here?? i want my truck...
maybe i did something wrong with writing settings, i dont know anymore.
can i put the as10 back in factorysettings? or is there anybody with a list of settings for the as10 i can use?
or other suggestions i can try?
i hope i can find some answers here!

Not sure why you thought it was ECU related. If it wasn't cranking over, did you check battery, starter and wiring to starter? Did you try "jumping" the starter, by connecting large and small terminal on starter temporarily...to see if it would crank over? Not sure if you are going to see fuel pump activity, unless it is cranking over.
Me, l'd put the old ECU back in and start at the beginning. Checking the primary starting circuitry...and see if you can get it to at least crank over.
As far as the immobilizer goes...not much help in that department.
Good luck.

Hi Deputy,
thanks for your reply, but im on the road again!
In the end; the ecu died four months ago. so the new ecu was the start of the solution. i think standing still for four months in the caribean sun isnt that good for the def; i had to overhaul the starter, put in a new battery, replaced the cranckshaftsensor, and i think this all together did the trick. the red enginelight with flash stays on in the dash, but the car is running and the nanocom has no strange readings. so im gonna ignore that, and put the pedal to the metal!

Glad you're back on the road!
Not sure if the defender is like our discovery ll, but if you insert the key in the drivers door lock and turn it twice to the right, pausing slightly between each one...it will disable the alarm. My defender is old and doesn't have this system.
