Replaced door handles and locks, nice to finally be able to lock the thing up. Been holding off on loading it with recovery gear, since it wasn't lockable. Thank you, Lucky 8 for the speedy shipping. Haven't installed the third thumber in rear door, yet. Lubed all door handle and window mechanisms while in there...window move like silk now.
l've got the swivel ***** rebuilt, new seals and bearings, just waiting for C/V joints and then it will go back together.
Finished rebuilding the swivel joints and C/V replacement. She goes down the road like a 2020 now, smooth turning and tight steering...even seems quicker during acceleration.
Pulled the plug on lifting it another inch, with spacers. After installing one, didn't like the height.
I was really happy with the lift I got from new genuine Land Rover HD springs. More than enough to clear the 34’s and looks like with a little trim on the flares the 35 will be good to go
Yeah, mine is already a couple inches higher with the OEM springs...so, l believe l'll be fine going to 285's. I already have to somewhat hop into the thing now, so with an additional inch and then another inch or so from tire upgrade...l just thought...enough is enough and l ain't getting any younger...lol. Plus, l have to keep telling myself...this is an overland build...not a mud machine. So, keeping it low enough for highway driving, stability wise is important.
I don't have a Defender (yet!) but while visiting friends in Germany last week I looked at a few LHD 110 TD5s. They are going for crazy money! €18K/$20K and up for rust buckets!
Luckily I had my Nanocom since we drove there in my Disco 2. So for €52 I added Defender Systems to my Nanocom so I could check out the Defenders properly.
Needless to say I didn't come home with one but I did make €20 for clearing the owners ABS fault codes. lol
Is that common for pistons to crack? We do limited service on small industrial diesels and I've never come across it. What makes it happen?
Known issue with the 2.5TD, they "supposedly" corrected, issue showed up when they first added the turbo to the 2.5NA and saw the problem shortly afterwards...but, obviously...they didn't. They said it was less common in later years (more common in mid 80's), but mine is a 1990 and the last year of this engine...and l was just lucky enough to get in on the issue! Imagine my joy...lol. l guess the piston lands were not heavy enough and cracked across the center opposite of the wrist-pin bosses.
Anyhow, fuel pump today. It had been leaking externally and was one of my last leaks on my list. Easy replacement and pump was a direct replacement (Rovers North).
Thinking about pulling the plates and starting the interior work, and drive the Dll.
