Willl Defenders ever be offered in US?
Every once in a while the LR dealership in the 'spensive part of town might have one. They're not new, but in nice shape nonetheless. And the asking price is usually in the 35k-40k range.
But, like Savannah says, we can dream.
Maybe you can order all the parts and put it together?

Nothing you'd recognize as a Defender. Something labeled "Defender" probably will be.
As for "base model", probably. But the "base model" will very unlikely be anything I'd call a base model. Very few people want a base model anything. The vast majority want carpeting, electric windows, AC, automatic transmissions, etc.

It's unlikely Defender in its present form will ever be available in US again (and soon not in UK/EU either). It's down to emissions legislation, and safety issues (no airbags etc). The model is nearing the end of its production life. This is a shame; the Jeep and Hummer are great vehicles, but the Defender would have been a good addition to the 4x4 market in the US.
Reliability is vastly improved on the old Series and early Defender models, and they are better equipped (mine is a 2005 110 station wagon and has carpets, radio, elec.tric windows and central locking - basic stuff by modern standards but fine for me as a good, sound utility).
LR spent a few years developing a successor to the Defender, with a view of getting back into the US market. But the design was dreadful and lost its roots entirely; it would have been an insult to the name. Thankfully it was dropped about a year ago, as focus groups in the States gave it the thumbs down.
But that doesn't ensure the old 'boxy' design will continue. FWIW my guess is that the production lines will eventually be moved to the far East (China or India?) and only they will be allowed to have it.
I've only ever driven Series and Defenders. They're no-nonesense utilities, cheap to run and easy to fix at home with basic tools and skills. I intend hanging on to mine! (pics in album).
