X-eng handbrake conversion to disc
I've only seen old posts of mixed reviews on these. I have a 200tdi rod operated handbrake and it never really held that well on steep hills when off roading.
Looking at the unit the sleeved bolts holding the caliper could be a weak point. I can see why they advise not to use for winching or as e-brake. Following that logic that would suggest it could also be an issue when applying handbrake on very steep hills when off roading, as could get similar load on it then too. Anyone had any experience with the thing twisting out of true or experienced any other problems for that matter ? Anyone tried using it as an emergency brake ?
I'm surprised they didn't go with a casting or surrounding bracket running the length of the caliper to provide more rigidity and resistance to rotational forces. This would make the unit more robust and suitable for holding the vehicle in extreme off road situations.
