First - too bad BROWNS!!! I was born in the 'burgh!

The 10 holes are not the mounting holes, its the holes outside the bolt pattern.

I am working on drive train upgrades with a local Rover guy.

"That's cool if that is what you really want to do."

BTW, come off your high-horse. Between you and Disco Mike it's hard to stomach this forum. I am sure you both have a lot of knowledge to share but don't treat everyone like a dunce. Some folks, like me, are trying to get involved with Rovers and could do without the attitude.

Mike - I find it hard to believe that a "retired service manager" could recommend dumping leak-stop **** into the power steering system instead of replacing the seals properly.

You are right,it's your truck.

Have fun with it. I just don't understand the advantages of switching the rims over like that. But that's not a problem either.

As far as the horse goes, he likes being high.

Them Steelers did look pretty good tonight. They should have scored at least 40 points or so.

Dave -

Have you checked the "Tech" section on Discoweb? There's is a pretty good list of tire fitments for DI's. You could also skim through the pictures in the gallery and maybe find the tire/lift combo example you're looking for. Hope this helps....

BTW - Those 15" will look sharp on your truck, good luck getting everything going!

Just wanted to let you know that I signed the Horse up for Rehab, but he broke loose and bolted when they tried to take him..................

Are you going to go ahead and get a new drivetrain to go with the new tires and rims or wait til the old one self destructs? Just curious.

Have fun with it. I'll be out searching for that darn High Horse again.

Did I miss something in this thread? The guy said he wants to put steel wheels on his rig, and now all of a sudden he needs a new friggin' drive train? Are our trucks really built so ****ty that putting different wheels and tires on them is a path to sure destruction? The guy never even specified a tire size, he simply asked for suggestions. ONE person gave him a suggestion.

Here's mine dude: Look around the Jeep community. Most YJ's and TJ's came with stock 15" wheels, as well as a lot of the Cherokees. Guys are always ditching their tires for a new/different set, and you can usually find a pretty good deal. If you went with a 30" BFG or something similar, the overall tire diameter will be basically the same as our 16" wheels and stock tires. Even if you went with a 31" tire (as suggested earlier), I would expect the extra wear and tear to be negligible(not taking lift into consideration). And if making that minute of a change really is enough to accelerate the mortality of your drive train, then you already need a new drive train.

I had 31x10.5 BFG (EDIT: Bridgestone) Dueler A/T's on my Wrangler, and really liked them. They were just big enough to not be wimpy stock and not be crazy expensive, but weren't so small that they would have looked out of place with a 2" lift.
And just FYI, I picked up my set of 5 stock 15" aluminum wheels with the 31x10.5 tires for $250, sold my stock steel wheels with similar tires for $175. Net cost of $75.

I'm with UpChuck on this one. If he is looking at the equivalent of a 31" or 33" on 15's I don't see why that should be a major issue. Our axles are the british equivalent of Dana 44's. Guys run this set-up on Jeeps all the time with no problems. Matter of fact there are a lot of guys that run the D44's with tires in the 37" range. I say go for it OP. If they bolt right up, great for you. If not find some adaptors or make some. Some black steelies will look great. I have black steelies (the exact one's in your link matter of fact) on my Jeep with 31's on 15's with a 2" lift. I think it is a nice set-up. I think you will enjoy it here also. Good luck with it!

Any progress Dave? I am a fan of tall skinnies, and am a huge fan of the BFG A/T KO.

I like this DI's stance...from the OKoffroad site so I'm sure you've already seen it.

I guess you missed Mike's posting about the 15 year old spider gear and the akles being "light duty" I believe it was and that the conversion would stress those requiring further upgrade. Which I believe is a serious consideration.

My questions were primarily if he was doing it primarily for the appearance aspects or was there another benefit that he was trying to achieve. It would be a shame to try it for looks and tear it up without realizing the potential damages related to such a change.

You can overdo anything. But hey, it's your truck, GO FOR IT.

Whatever rocks you, bash it trash it smash it or whatever else excites you. Everybody has something they enjoy doing to extreme. Thankfully I have gotten most of the extreme stuff out of my system by now. It's a miracle I even survived some of the things I did.

Now I just try to get by and enjoy whatever little things I csn find to do to fill my time.................. Have fun with, whatever you do.
