Another point would be to do the free and low dollar things first, like freeze plug, etc. If you can get the tea kettle to hold water, and not steam at idle for 30 minutes, that's progress. If you have a cracked block....

Thanks for the encouragement and advice guys. Yes, the cheap and easy stuff will be done first. I already know what the wrecking yard will give me for it so anything above that (at this point) will be a gamble.

Top priority is sealing the 'tea kettle' up. Ha ha. One freeze plug was repaired (rubber stopper type) and another one was discovered missing. I think this is good that a plug popped on both sides of the block...tells me they were doing their job and protecting the block. Now how much it was run and driven that is a bit concerning but thankfully the exhaust is so loud I doubt it was ever run for more than a few minutes at a time.

Today I will get another freeze plug put in and see if it will idle and come up to temp. Then we will see about getting it home. My buddy has a welder so I may attempt to reattach the exhaust myself at least temporarily.

I have a good Optima battery waiting to go into it and charger(s) around. As far as rattle-can camo...come on, I don't want to hurt the resale value!! ;-)

Whitefish is still a liberal hippie-town. It's a resort (lake/mountain) ski town. I have often heard it compared with Vale or Aspen (art galleries and such). There are more multi-million dollar homes around here than you would believe so my $300 Land Rover will fit right in!!

They do make temp use fan belts that can be cut to size, just won't take a lot of power. Panty hose could be used. Regular belt won't do because PS pump is almost toast. If nearby you just need the water pump.

 

I only live a few miles away. I'm assuming the PS pump is already shot, it looks to have been driven that way for a while. I just hope permanent damage hasn't occured to the rack or box. Surprisingly it was a lot easier to drive without PS than my CJ7 which has never had PS!

Has anyone ever had a door that would not open? The pass door will not open from the inside or outside with the door appearing unlocked. I can start a new thread on that one if needed. Matt

 

New thread. Door latch and window regulator rollers are common problems. Book shows how to open up panels on doors, remove interior trim, etc. They sell cheap set of plastic removal tools at parts store, look like baby crow bars. You'll be needing a voltmeter.

 

And in the tech section there is a write up on using a Chevy PS pump from a Chevy S10, buy at auto parts or slide by the salvage yard.

I have a DVM and test light. I'll update all and report back this evening. Should have it home tonight or this weekend, that is if I can seal the thing up! The current owner says the other freeze plug is in a bad spot...may have to remove the exhaust manifold. That could delay things and I can't be paying for a tow!

 

Pay for a month of storage and work on it there. Dang, should had him throw that in...

If you can reach it and wedge in the plug, with a spare or two in your pocket, drive with coolant cap off so pressure can't build up so high. Carry water with you (bottled) - can mix with distilled spirits to celebrate if not used.

As far as your door is concerned, it sounds like a linkage problem. It will be tough to remove the door card with the door closed but it is doable. Hopefully, the passenger seat moves forward and back to give you a little room to play around.
