Thanks for the info. I'll just change out the thermostat with your suggestion@180 degrees, change out the radiator hoses, replace the worn out spark plugs and a new water pump(bronze impeller). Hopefully I will have solved the problem on the cheap.

And the temp will be stamped on it. $10 ish. Any vent hole or jiggle device goes at 12:00 position to allow steam to pass by.

Thermostat, coolant tank cap, serpentine belt routing.
Another possibility: if the belt is old, or the tensioner is worn out, the water pump may be slipping a bit.

I'm having trouble finding the proper lower radiator hose. Mine has one of the "t" hoses(for the overflow tank) that is 17" long. The esr-1818 and 1819 hoses are too short. Is this a uniquely California car part? I may have to go to the local LR dealer to match up parts. Any thoughts about the lower radiator hose?
Thanks,

I've ordered a 180 degree thermostat, high flow water pump, fan shroud(mine is missing), new serpentine belt( the old one is cracked), upper radiator hose, looking for the proper lower hose, will replace heater hoses and maybe the heater core, I need to order a new thermostat housing...corrosion, I've found a Washington state company that makes an all brass and copper radiator for $601.00. I'll run all the other new stuff on the rodded out original radiator to see if it still overheats before buying a new radiator. Thanks for the info.
The serpentine is very old and cracked and probably not driving the water pump properly.
I'll keep everyone posted on my slow shade tree project. Makes it harder to work on it in my neighbors driveway down the street. At least it's not raining.

ESR1818 is a RRC hose.
ESR1819 is superseded.
