Default 1998 Discovery Land Rover LE - SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT

All - I am a 30ish guy who was lucky enough to inherit a 1998 Land Rover Discovery LE, 50th Anniversary Edition with about 95,000 miles.
So with little knowledge of this vehicle, I decided to join the forum.

With a little TLC and clean-up, the vehicle seems to run very well.
However, the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT has been on since I obtained the vehicle. Without the proper equipment to check it, I stopped at a local 'quick oil change shop' to ask them about it. They ran a diagnostics test and it returned back a 'Sensor' issue. The shop attempted to "re-set" it, and indicated the light may go off after a few starts and stops. It has yet to do so.

Any help on where I start with this issue?

Thanks,
Robb

You would need the specific code it ran. There's too many sensors to guess, and most codes won't re-set by themselves. If you go to autozone or advanced auto, they will give you the exact 4-digit code, but many will not re-set it turning off the light.

Why not get the sensor fix instead? Even if it's been re-setted and the warning light disappears, it will eventually come back on again unless the problem has been taken care of!

First. Congrats on getting one of the greatest 4 wheel drive vehicles out there!
Second. Download the RAVE manual. It is in someones signature on here.
Third. Get the 4 digit code so you know where to start looking. The code does not always mean that part is defective. It can also just be what is triggering from another symptom.
