1999 D1 drivers power seat switch
I barely fit behind the steering wheel/dash on my D1. i am guessing that the power seat may be forward a bit and doesn't go forward or back. Seat backrest does move so I am guessing fuses and power might be OK. Switch seems like a good place to start.
Anyone have a spare they can part with??
Tough on an old man with messed up knees and swollen legs, plus lets say maximum capacity....
Thanks
Jim

I’d start with a healthy dose of contact cleaner after pulling the switch out of its home in the console. Buy a can of De-Oxit if you can swing it, but the CRC brand stuff at the local parts store may suffice. Hose the switch down with it and spend a few minutes working the contacts and stuff back n forth. This has (fortunately) resolved any power seat problems on mine… even when I was convinced I was gonna have to pull the seat to troubleshoot.
Like others stated, take them apart and hit it with the electronics cleaner, then I usually add electric grease on all contacts and then plug it back in. Works like a charm, the other day i was able to revive audio controls on the dashboard like this.
The failure mode on my switch assembly for the driver's seat included melted plastic, so I needed a new switch. I think the PO sat on the switch causing continuous activation (amps). The contacts had overheated, melting the plastic that was supposed to hold it in position.
I was able to get a new Mercedes switch for about half price of the Land Rover model. It did need some cutting of the mounting plastic in order to fit, but that was easy. I read on this forum that the mechanical cable can be unscrewed from the motor under the seat, then turned by hand or with a drill motor, if you only need it to be in one position.

fairly easy to repair. Be carful pulling it out of the center console, the tabs can break easily. I'd warm up the interior to make the plastics more pliable.
Borrow a cookie sheet pan and line it with a light colored towel/paper towel. Those little springs and ball bearings love to run away.

I took it down for some fuel and I played with the switch a little, back bottom does go up and down, and backrest moves forward and back, just thee seat bottom doesn't move forward or back. Temp was up to mid 20's, but I mangled my back muscles using the snow blower so I don't bend too good. A couple of guys were drooling over my D1, happens every time I drive it somewhere. I think about selling it until I drive it. Then I end up keeping it. Noticed last time I had insurance on it (on the road) was 1 1/2 years ago.
In the last year, I have put maybe 75 miles on my D1, it costs me nothing to have it tarped in the back yard, and started occasionally to keep things charged and lubricated, and if it isn't on the road, no need for insurance. Homeowners covers it if a tree falls on it or ?? The joys of having multiple vehicles I guess.
As for the snow bower, it beats doing the shoveling thing when you have a sidewalk that goes 1/2 way around the property, plus no driveway so I end up doing part of the street. About 1 1/2 hrs with the blower, most of the day with a shovel. Maybe time to move somewhere that doesn't get the snow!!

. Sorry about your back. Might be best to sell if going without insurance.... You could always get another later
