Default 1999 Discovery 1 rescue

Recently I picked up this disco, P.O. had no idea what to do with it as it was having all sorts of problems.

Here is what I have found so far..
Alarm system was all messed up,
Ignition key was broken off and the tumbler is mangled to get it out. I have a new key that sort of works
Radio displays CODE
Missing front axle center caps
type 51 battery installed, 6 years old (about 1/2 the size of a standard battery)
Dash falling off
Radio slides out
back windows don't operate
Horn and 4 way flashers not working
Grille guard laying in back end
power steering empty
low on coolant
Plugging in my scanner I counted 27 error codes..
inside rear view mirror has a piece of mirror glued on it
Glove box laying on floor
Trans shifter **** missing
Gear selector plate mangled
center console hacked up

I guess you could cal it a project vehicle of sorts.

1)Alarm system, found hood switch was damaged and never closed, Horn/4 way lights fuse pulled, probably to silence alarm.
2) Radio, got code from dealer and it works OK, needs speaker work. rear amp seems to work.
3) found gear shift **** and installed it, have a new plate for shifter, not installed yet.
4)Coolant pressure cap doesn't hold pressure, upper radiator hose has a bulge near the thermostat housing, parts ordered.
5) Re-seated dash/instrument panel, plans are to do some work when the weather gets better and have more time.
6) installed new rubber axle center cups, wheel centers on order
7) new battery installed
8) hood switch disconnected
9) have new window control board to be installed
10) glove box in place, new screws for hinges
11) grill guard relocated to shed for now. to be installed when it warms up outside.
12) replacement inside mirror (from D2) to be wired up and installed

This is why I had so many questions lately. truck only has 130K miles on it and is mostly clean except for a bit of rust on pass side rear door sill. It's getting there!! Try to get some pics tomorrow.

My friend just saved a lovely 99 D1 as well. Just needed the CPS installed properly, CPS wiring harness repaired (it was twisted together in 2-3 places where the insulation was completely gone causing a 100% dead short), and a faulty Chinese made MAF that was DOA out of the box, but the previous owner had no clue as the CPS was the real issue. Runs excellent!!

Swapped out the window control board, left rear window motor works, but doesn't move the glass. Right rear window works. Looks like the door is coming apart...

Battery replaced and had to add the code back in the radio (again)

Nice work. That list of ailments was pretty intimidating. Well done!

Thanks!

That's nothing compared to the modifications list...

coolant cap, upper hose, and tire cover arrived today. Waiting for thermostat before replacing the upper hose.

Glovebox back in place. Need to find the lower right side kick panel between the firewall and the door opening.

Ok, drove this to work yesterday (last night) and got there Ok, and back. this morning I went to start it, and alarm went off. red led on dash, horn honking, etc. turned the ignition key on which reset the horn, but still had the flashing LED, and wouldn't try to turn over. Tried using the key in the door lock, no response. I disconnected the black/orange wires and tied them together. This shut off the blinking LED, and it will now turn over, but won't start.
When I got home, I locked all the doors but the drivers door. Hood switch is disconnected.

Any ideas?

I don't care if the alarm system works or not. Be happy with it disconnected.
