Let's say you have a D1 with a dropped sleeve.

What would you do (assuming you couldn't do the work yourself)?

 

Buy a 96' or newer(coil pack instead of distributor) D1 with no more than 150k miles for $2000-$2500. Use the 95' as a parts car, research the local pick a part junkyards, Buy some tools, download the RAVE manual, and start learning to work on your car.

An entry level engine rebuild will cost you approx. 3-4 grand plus the cost of a new block from a mechanic.

 

I suppose I should have said (assuming you DIDN'T WANT TO do the work yourself).

I have lost too many hours wrenching on land rovers.

 

Drive it till it goes up in flames. Drop in a used engine or pick up a used D1.

 

There is a thread here showing how to pin it engine in, maybe print that and get a shop to do it?
