You will want a higher number if available, measured with a clamp on ampmeter my D1 draws over 80 amps at idle from alternator with stock AC, headlights, wiper, etc., switched on. Add electric seats, windscreen heat, Hellas, you can get to the limit pretty quick.

Sorry I did not see that. While I'm sure Buzz is correct about the 80 amp draw, it's unlikely you'll pull that much normally. Who drives around with everything on at the same time all the time? Even then 100 > 80 so while it might not be ideal it should be ok.

I agree if you can find a higher amp alternator that doesn't break the bank it could be worth it though. One possibility is the Mr Amp Rover alternator which from the description on their site sounds like an excellent alternator . Part # is MR-130-LR.

ET is correct, 80 is a most everything figure. See this post, where I listed amps by various items https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...or-amps-46591/. But keep in mind stop and go traffic, rain, warm - AC will be on, lights, brake lights, radio, fuel pump, engine electronics, wipers fore and aft... it adds up.

Great link Eric! I am trying to find one local as my disco is stuck at a friends house but I am keeping those as reference.

I agree it adds up. I am setting my disco up for over landing so will have extra draw with the 8 extra lights and the power inverter.

I think I remember someone talking about putting the 120amp RR P38 alternator on D1. I guess it will work IF it has the tach output and a similar sized pulley.

Just to follow up I tossed the beck arnley alternator in, that fixed the charging problem for now but I am going to put a higher amp one in later.

FYI, I fouled my plugs trying to start it over and over with the bad alternator. Picked up 8 NGK copper plugs and she is back in action!

Thanks everyone for all the help, I will update this thread when I go with the larger amp option.
