Now I've seen it all. An owner of one of the most capable 4WD vehicles wants to dismember those capabilities because he did not perform proper maintenance (checking oil/fluid levels).
The new transfer case will still need to be filled with gear oil and so removing the linkages to the mechanisms and/or the lever on the center tunnel inside the truck will do nothing to prevent this from happening again.
There is no logic to this and performing this removal will only serve to reduce the scrap value of the truck when it ultimately bites the dust which, one might argue, is close to happening based on the maintenance record of this owner.

Fair enough,I just bought the land Rover about 3 months ago i drove it for about 50 miles and this happened.PREVENTATIVE MAINT. no I failed to check it when i bought it.Most likely was on its way out when i bought it.
The shifter for hi/lo lock open is broke.So its coming out no matter what.But hey thanks for all your helpful post's they were very helpful.NOT.
