Assuming this is an Auto trans, firmly jiggle the shifter front and back. About once every 3 months mine would be a hair out of position and I would have to jiggle it.

I just tried what you said to do and my shifter won't come out of park. It acts like it's stuck. I tried jiggling it around and still nothing. The battery I bought was from autozone. It was a valucraft size 34 battery. Are valucraft batteries bad. One would think that batteries should not be bad when bought new.

Not sure this could be your problem but it was for me....I confused myself and ran the short lead wire from the fuse box to the negative terminal instead of the positive. Nothing comes on if wired up wrong like that. Long shot but worth a check.

The wires are on the terminal correctly. The ground wire is on the positive terminal and the short lead wire from the fuse box is connected to the negative terminal.

Short lead from the fuse box should be on the positive!

Just to clarify... That short lead from the fuse box: that should be connected to the positive (+) side. The positive terminal also gets the main red (positive) lead that goes to the starter. The short lead becomes the bolt on the positive side. The main ground / negative (-) just gets the main black (negative) lead and a regular bolt.

Photo attached I lifted from a website.

Nice! No problem. That’s pretty much the only thing I know about fixing Discoveries so glad it worked!
