97 disco dead again!
System seems to be in lockout again! battery ok @ 12.8 vdc, has been setting for awhile put the windows down earlier today, went to put them up tonite and no power to anything. the clock keeps resetting when you try to turn something on. what a piece of crap.
It is British and has the prince of Darkness as a friend.
turn on headlights, turn key, lights go out or dim to nothing charge Battery. There is a min voltage that must be there to make it work. the experts will chime in.
Also please note that these cars a use to being called a piece of crap so you will not hurt there feelings at all.
Look at my list all have been a POC many times.

There are two min volts to consider, alternator when running, and battery only when not running.
The alternator should, when at idle, produce enough voltage and amps to run the truck, and charge the battery somewhat. So the volts across the battery will be 13.8 - 14.4. This will decrease as you switch on more gear, like lights and AC. Should not stay below 13.2 when running, if it does, you are actually starting to drain the battery, and eventually it won't have enough charge to re-start the truck. One thing that can cause that is a bad voltage regulator or diode inside the alternator, so you can have a stock 100 amp alternator that only puts out 33 amps. It will look pretty normal until you turn on everything.
The battery itself can have a dead cell. It will look like charge voltage is OK. If you turn off truck, with head lights on, so there is some load there, the battery should not drop to 11 or 10 volts like a stone.
Another thing that can cause problems is oxidation on the battery terminals, or the smaller terminals in the front of the under hood fuse boxes. Also, if the negative battery terminal wiring is loose or oxidized where it bonds to the frame (follow the big cable) you will have problems. The starter draws close to 300 amps when it starts, so a small bit of corrosion can cause problems.
Most auto parts stores have a tester that can check battery and charging system in the truck for free.

Voltage matters NOT, have the battery tested, make sure new one has min CCA, Install then have your local auto zone test alternator. Simple.
Int texas you are lucky to have a a battery live longer than 3 years.
During the summer here in Texas all you see is AAA battery delivery installing all over the place.
As for your comment Piec of Crap.......Well yeah they have some stupid *** issues and designs that only the british can appreciate.
I love my piece of crap and I also love Jeeps. I think the best rock solid simple 4x4 ever made was a simple chevy square body 1/2 ton with a 350.
Coming on here and defaming the beloved Landy is like..............well you know.
