The hinges tend to break affter years of carrying the big heavy spare. I like the spaciousness of the one large door, but would prefer the barn door style like the Surburban or a GullWing hinged at the top like the original Mercedes SL had.

So between oil pump, timing chain, cam shaft, and water pump, which ones should be assumed to need replacement and ordered now and which should only be ordered upon examination? Also what about the timing chain sprockets?

I work for wood door manufacturer but I'm sure we could custom CNC something to fit

If you go ahead and get the cover off, you can examine the timing chain to see if it needs replacement. Pulling the timing chain off will allow you to inspect sprockets for wear.

Wooden doors would be beautiful. I have an American Legion Lodge a block from my home. They do car cruises each week during the summer. There was a 1931 Chevrolet 4 door that had a wooden trunk, wooden running boards and a few other nice wooden pieces. Also an early Ford Station Wagon that had beautiful wooden sides and doors. I always liked Woody's. My dad had a few early Ford Country Squires.

My center console did not survive my CDL Repair, I finally got around to replacing it with an original wooden Cutty Sark Scotch case that I beefed up, mounted the top from the console on the front half of (rotated 90 degrees) and put a hinged wooden door on the rear half that my grandkids all signed. The window and seat switches currently reside under the padded console top. It fit pretty good considering.

I would love to have some more wooden items in it. Hint, hint. You could do some really cool stuff with CNC in wood.

ET,

Salvage yards sell whole doors for maybe $60, that would also be an option.

Danny was the one concerned about the door, not me

I was just wanting different options instead of what's on there.

JP Disco

After taking your advice and reading this page more:
RPi Engineering - V8 Engines
and examining my camshaft I've decided to go ahead and replace most of the internal parts: camshaft, tappets, pushrods, rockers, rocker shaft, timing chain, cam gear, crank gear, oil pump, and water pump. It's going to cost a lot but I want to keep this disco for a loooong time.
