Default 97 disco power loss

I recently purchased a 1997 disco and i have been driving it back and forth to work with no problems for 2 weeks, but yesterday I was driving on the highway doing about 65-67mph and all of a sudden it felt lik i loss power like misfire or dropped a cylinder type feeling but then it recovered quickly didnt happen on the way to work this AM and i didnt get any check engine light. The wires and plugs have been replaced and its wierd how it just came out of no where and now its running fine. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Congrats on your purchase! I had something similar, and it ended up being a bad vehicle speed sensor. In order for us to help you diagnose this problem, and in the future, do us all a favor and pick up an OBD-2 code reader. The preferred flavor around here is UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool, and it's amazing. I use it as my speedo/tach.

Best of luck.

I have a scan gauge thats mounts on the dash i just have to plug it in, i just figured since it didnt have any check engine light come up it wouldnt pull any codes. But the ultra gauge looks like it gives a lot more info than mine for only 70.00 lol.

The VSS is suspect because no CEL, the ECU believed your truck was being driven too fast for safe operation (like above 114 mph) and it began shutting down cylinders to slow it down. Problem will happen more frequently, the VSS is not rebuildable, but truck can run without it connected for testing (no cruise or speedo).

If the VSS, it will less likely show up at slower speeds around town. Even though engine is hitting same rpms.
