Did anyone ever figure out the solution? My 2000 Discovery is doing the exact same things listed here. Havent found out how to fix it yet!!!! HELP!

 

This was happening to my 99 Disco II and it was my air mass meter.

 

I had the same issue. It turned out to be back pressure with the exhaust system. A new exhaust and problem fixed. it is really frustrating when something is wrong and so many different things can be the cause of the problem.
