99 dico sd steering

If all the joints are good. The steering gear box backlash ALLEN bolt is used to correct the excessive play. You will need to jack up the front end with the tires off the ground. Disconnect the steering gear box arm from the tie rod. Now check for backlash in the gear box. Move the arm side to side. You should feel movement if it is not backlashed properly. Use the steering backlash bolt and adjust it until the play is just close enough to not wiggle. This is the best way to test and correct steering gear box backlash play.

I keep forgetting that in the real world many shops will still inspect for free.

Do these have rag joints in the steering column ?

will give it a go this weekend and give update, thanks for the info
