Default Aftermarket Cruise Control?

Has anyone fitted an aftermarket (Rostra Universal system or similar) cruise control on their D1? Mine is currently inoperable, and rather than messing with the vacuum lines and vacuum system, I'm thinking about installing an aftermarket system. Just curious if anyone has installed a system that they like...

On a side note, could someone send me a photo of the vacuum hose routing under their hood? I'm particularly interested in the area where the vacuum line comes to a "T" near the brake booster, and where exactly the vacuum line for the brake switch goes through the firewall (my vacuum line going to the brake switch is missing).Thanks.

I may have an old photo of the routing I can send you. I’ll check and see. All the cruise controls on the D1’s have eventually failed. Never installed an aftermarket. I just removed my lines altogether and let it be. Left the assembly in place though.

Are there any details on this forum on how to do this? I tried a quick search but came up empty...

You just need the D2 Hella CC ECU and the pigtail for it. Then you remove your D1 unit and I personally just cut the wires going to the D1 CC unit (it uses a weird plug/base). Then wire them up to the D2 unit. No reason to keep the old style plug as those ECU's were crap in the RRC/D1 and I'd never go back to one vs the D2/P38 Hella Unit.

Thanks. I'll think about doing this. I was kind of looking at going to route of what I mentioned earlier (the system uses a servo motor connected to the battery to pull the throttle cable, rather than a vacuum system). But if my vacuum system is easy enough to fix I might just do this...

If you have this, I'd still be very interested...thanks!

The pumps themselves are pretty robust. Lines are usually the #1 issue, followed by the older ECU, worn brake switch, spiral cassette, or a pinhole in the actual rubber actuator. Once those parts are up to date the CC system normally will last a very long time.

Good to know. I have the replacement vacuum line and T-junction. I just need to know exactly where the vacuum line is supposed to run through the firewall to the brake switch since that vacuum line on my vehicle is missing altogether. I'm also not sure if my brake switch is even still on the vehicle...I need to dig into this a bit more. If stillruns (or anyone else) could give me a photo of what the vacuum line routing is supposed to look like, that would be super helpful.
