Well I am going to have it dropped off next week to the shop that came highly recommended.
I called him today and he said no more than $150, depends on what exactly is wrong with it, 24hr turn around time.
He can also turn up the amps.
I feel much better about that than ordering from some unknown off of e-bay.

Spike since you said you have a spare and it needs bearings, why don't you have them rebuild it or at least open it up and see what is up with it? If it is an original MM, and it just needs bearings or whatever you are a little ahead of the curve.

I thought mine may be going and bought one from a local recycler for $60. I did not need it but it is in my garage. Is a "recent rebuild". Have not tried it yet.

Does anyone have a source for replacement parts for the alternator?

That was my plan Danny, have the spare rebuilt and then throw it on some weekend.
Now here is my snag.
My spare alt was sent to me for free from a fellow forum member who I had helped out a few years ago, it has been sitting in the box in my garage for about 2 yrs.
Opened box tonight after work...it's a DII alt.
He sent it to me with it already needing bearings, I knew it would not work out of the box, no big deal, get it rebuilt, blah blah blah...rebuild time and its the wrong one. DOH!!
No big deal, time for plan "B".

Ain't that the way it always seems to work out.

Are the bearings the same I wonder? Regulator same?

Remove those and sell it for scrap. Or trade it to someone else.
