I bought the Duralast from Autozone. How can you tell if it's always engaged? it has certainly fixed the overheating problem for me.

You can hear the fan all the time, it's an obvious sound, like an electric leaf blower on high. The fuel mileage will drop like a rock, motor won't have get up and go. Hayden in mine.

thanks. i didn't notice any distinguishable change in sound, power or MPG. I was expecting to see a drop in MPG and in power, just from having a working fan, but i've seen none of that.

That's great, it's working as advertised. I know what you mean since I added a fan clutch to my setup, my seat of the pants gauge says I lost a little grunt on take offs. With the A/C on I lost all rocket boost..... but I am comfortable while waiting for it to spool. I have one final suggestion about your setup, you should get an aftermarket temp gauge so you have an accurate reading and then you'll have a good baseline to know when something is amiss. The dash gauge is just fill to round out a dash card, way too slow to be of use.

so, after reading the above posts. ive been listening more closely to the engine and it seems that the fan clutch is working-- a lot. but, before i make any definitive claims, i want to check mpg on the highway. ive been looking into tuning the fan clutch. my particular clutch is not adjustable, but with a little ingenuity, i think i may be able to do so. but that will be a post overland (KS-PA-TX-KS) project. IHScouts, i purchased an autometer 4337 temp gauge and finally installed it today. i think it may be a road hazard, as i seem to be staring at it more than the hardball, my first conclusion is that the factory gauge cannot determine temps between 190-205. though the autometer tracked the temp rise, the factory gauge hit a point at 190 and stayed there through 205. my temp sensor is located in the rad hose with an adapter. i will install more permanently tomorrow. the truck never peaked more than 205 degrees, but, i think i am extremely lucky . temp gauge has gone as high as about 5/8 of the factory gauge once when sitting in Kansas City traffic. the fan clutch certainly is controlling the temp, though.

What is the general consensus on running a 180 thermostat in a 1995 D1? ive read both, good and not so good. damn this thing is fickle.

I have a URO - pile of garbage
it sounds like a jet engine when trying to accelerate -
constantly engaged even at free way speed when its 70* out
in otherwords if you are on the freeway cruising for a bit and get off and still sounds like a jet engine - its not disengaging
