Another Vortec swap thread...
Thanks. Bought 5 Maxxis Bighorns in 255/85/16 last night too while on a 1am study break ha. Online tires has a great deal on them. Got all 5 shipped for just $910.
Well, it all went well. Great oil pressure, and coolant temp staying right around 180-183F. It has a small coolant seep from what seems like the freeze plug above the rear main seal (worst possible place). It has gotten better over time so I'm hoping that heat cycling will eventually seal it completely. Other than that, it sounds like a sewing machine. I can feel the extra power. It isn't whoa type power, but more like it should have been from the factory. Enough power to hold interstate speeds up hills while in overdrive. It currently has 245/75/16 tires and is getting 255/85/16s on Thursday, so I'm sure that may change. Overall though, if you are rebuilding a 4.0 for any reason, I highly recommend spending the extra $200-400 to find a good used 4.6 rotating assembly to swap in.
I reverse engineered the LR and chevy bell housings to come up with an adaptor plate CAD file. It's for my 6.2 diesel swap, but presumably once a Chevy bell housing is bolted in there it'll accept any chevy engine?
Who want's to test it?
