Anti Lock Light
97' Disco... Trying to do one job at a time and now have the Anti Lock Light to contend with. I had at one time pulled the Fuse but recently put it back in. As I hit the brakes the 1st time after start up, I get a rumble in the brake pedal and a little motor whining noise near the brake cylinder (probably the ABS module) , then the light goes out. Is this common??? Is this dangerous?
It can be dangerous if the brake pedal kicks back (pulses). You won't have brakes while it's malfunctioning, the pedal will prevent you from pushing down. There is a way of grabbing the blink code from the ABS ECU that tells you what the malfunction is and it's almost always a wheel sensor has lifted from the reluctor ring. Take a small open end wrench that fits over the wheel sensor and tap it back down until it makes contact with the reluctor (you'll feel and hear it). On the front it's the CV joint and out back it's a ring screwed onto the back side of the rotor. Give that a try and I'll look around for how to get the blink code, been awhile and didn't save the info. If tapping the wheel sensors doesn't work disable the pump fuse again....... you don't want to take unnecessary risks eh. When the system is functioning correctly the ABS light will stay on until the truck reaches 5 mph and then it goes out.
