Default Any Ideas?

Hi everyone, I have been absent from the forums while at college, but now I need some help. I was driving through some terrible rain after coming home from hunting yesterday and my turn signals stopped working. The indicator light is not even coming on inside the dash panel. They stopped working after my car overheated once again. I was stuck in some mud and I had to rev the engine pretty hard for about 30 seconds to get out and the engine temperature shot up to 216. The coolant reservoir overflowed because it has a crack in it however I put more coolant in and ordered a new reservoir. I am lost as to why my turn signals decided to stop this time. If anyone knows why they stopped working please let me know. Thank you.

Hummm, I can say that my turn signals stopped working(unrelated to overheating) but I did get a static non flashing light on the arrow symbol on the dash. Mine was the silver barrel shaped relay on the fuse box under the drivers side dash panel. Replaced and all was well.

Maybe there was some trauma to the engine bay fuse box? Not sure if there are any turn signal connections there, but it is close to the overflow tank.

I looked under the dashboard and found the fuse, but I don't know how to tell if it is blown. Like you said, it's a silver cylinder shape. I will go ahead and replace it and see if that fixes the problem. Advanced Auto Parts apparently doesn't carry the particular fuse so I will try NAPA later this week. Thanks for the quick reply.

I recommend being a little more concerned about the overheating and cracked coolant tank as the highest priority. temperature shouldn't spike like that after just 30 seconds of getting it unless there is a problem. your cracked coolant tank is not allowing the cooling system to pressurize. coolant maintains its high boiling point under pressure, depressurizing the system lowers the boiling point and therefore the effectivity of your coolant, and leaves you susceptible to overheating and all the nastiness that comes along with it like head gasket failure.

Hi ajnolin, I am ordering a new coolant reservoir today or tomorrow and that should help my cooling issue. I also know I need a new clutch fan since mine is not pulling in enough air. Anybody know where I can get a new clutch fan and what I need to get?

is it the black tank that failed? Black tanks will always fail, they just wait for the earliest available opportunity to mess you up good. British Atlantic has a aftermarket white / translucent tank for around 40 bucks that works great. the tanks get a lot of stress, not worth saving a measly few bucks and going used. it's also worth spending the couple extra bucks and getting a new pressure cap.

Finally got the turn signals to work. I was stupid and didn't replace the hazard/horn fuse. I had that fuse out for several months because it kept blowing due to the broken horns, however the turn signals still worked. I was cleaning out my car and found a pack of 30s and decided to see if my hazards worked and when I did I also tried my turn signals and they magically started working. I have no idea why they stopped working in the first place because for the longest time they worked without the fuse for the hazard/horn. Still confused but glad they work now.

Thanks to abran I now have a new fan clutch and clear coolant reservoir so I will put these in and hopefully resolve my cooling issues. Thanks for all the help.

That round silver thing is the flasher not a fuse, if it is bad no real way to tell, should be common and cheap at any parts store
