Being High Centered is no fun.
Decided to go do some off roading, Ended up going down a vertical hill that i didnt think was so vertical and ended up getted high centered in the back and popping a tire in the front, Thus running on one tire... Which was no where near enough to pull me out of that ditch, Finally got pulled out and got the tire fixed. Moral of the story, Look before you leap.
Yep, if you don't iknow what's ahead, it is better to get out and walk it first. Lots of people have rolled them or flipped them in similar situations. And that would ruin your day as well as your Discovery.
Remember the LR axiom, As slow as possible, as fast as necessary. And remember just because you are in a Land Rover does not mean you can go anywhere you want to, it still has limits to observe.
If all else fails, my favorite is "Drive it like you stole it."

A hi-lift would sort that out in quick order.
You weren't high centered though. High centered is when you've lost traction because the center of the vehicle is on the a rise in the terrain.
This is high centered.
