Default Brake Light Issue Disco 1

Hi Everyone

I have a Disco 1 98...Just got it, just noticed that one out of the 3 brake lights is not working, i removed the bulb and it looked fine ? I put the bulb into the holder on the other side and it worked ? but it will not work in ots original bulb holder, all other bulbs in this cluster work, fog light and reverse light ?? same goes for the parking light on the opposite side ? the two bulbs work but one of the holders seem not to be working ?

is it a ground problem ? or do the wires need a clean with wd40 ? same goes for lights over reg plate, they were working now not working, is there one fuse for all the lights on the back or seperate ones ? or how do you fix loose wires / connections without taking whole thing apart ?

Thanks

*****

I'd try cleaning the housing connector tabs first. they can get corrosive build up. I use a small scraper/pick and a wire brush.

Get a test light. Verify you're getting power where you should.

The housing that holds the bulb for the parking light in the bumper, can the wires be taken out of this to clean them, i didnt see any screws to undo to release the wires ? and i also need a new float in the diseal tank, is that a big job to do ?

no, you don't want to take the wires off. just make sure they are well connected.
the actual parts that make the connection to the bulb, should be clean. they tend to relax and get dirty. clean them in place.
as mentioned above, get a test light. they are less than $10 U.S. clamp it on a ground and touch it to the bulb connection tab and see if it lights up. that is the easiest way to narrow your search
good luck

Ok so had a little look, both bulbs are ok, as i tried each bulb in the socket that is working ( drivers side rear bumper parking light ) i then took out the black bulb holder from the red socket with has two wires going into it, one red one black, both seem pretty secure in there, i swapped it over to working parking light and the bulb holder works on that side, so it the red socket or a break in the cables somewhere ??? indicator on this side is sorking ok and they are in the same unit....should i just cut this red socket out of it and splice in one from breakers yard ? or check to see if power is coming to connections on this socket first i guess ??
