Well I decied to get rid of the factory radio and install something with mp3 cd ability. (I had a JVC deck sitting around collecting dust) Well after it was all hooked up and sounded great till I start the truck, now there is a side tone from the alt. I am guessing I will have to bypass the amp. Anyone else have this problem? Oh yeah, is there anyway to make the buttons on the cluster work with an aftermarket radio?

This site sells adapters etc that can help you get those buttons working etc... don't ask me what you need as I have not redone the rover yet. But, I have used them to put systems in a 2002 Cadillac sls, A 2000 Jeep, A 2001 Chevy 1500 and a couple of 90 Riviera's.

I installed a new deck with the adapter and get no sound whatsoever, I was told I have to have the truck re-wired with a aftermarket amp to make it all work. How'd you get it to play sound, the adapter was easy to follow for the colors. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

Well I took a slightly more drastic approach. I pulled the wiring (all of it) from under the passenger floor carpet. I removed the factory amp all together, and all associated wiring. I pulled the four sets of speaker wires (which were already nicely twisted together making them easier to identify) directly behind the stereo. Then I mounted the maintenance timer module behind the passenger kick panel and the check engine code box in the glove box. Lots of cutting, splicing and spiral wrap. Now there are no wires that run under the carpet on the passenger side, and I can easily identify check engine codes. Of course the stereo works great now! (however the rear door subs do not, I am removing them and making a custom rear door panel, so it all works out)

 

Yeah, I would ****** all that old stuff out and just start from scratch redoing and rerouting.

 

Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for the LR3 Harmon Kardon stereo (with sirius) and the associated amp wiring diagrams. I'm planning the same project but can't find the diagrams anywhere.

To answer your question, yes, someone does. But I'm not that person. You might have better luck in a forum labeled LR3
