Help on bypassing the HK factory amp
I had changed over to a new head unit last year, and never did get round to getting rid of the ground loop buzz I created. From what I heard, if I just go around the factory amp it should get rid of it.
I had looked into this before, and looked thru the rave, but still unsure. Before I go clipping wires, I figured I would ask the experts to see if anyone did it.
From what I could tell, there is the harness at the front of the amp under the seat. It looks like input, output and power are all there. So, I should be able to cut the wires there, terminate the power, and just connect the rest to each other. The head unit amp will be enough to power everything.
So, has anyone been able to get rid of the alternator buzz while keeping the factory amp, or anyone who has bypassed it?
Thanks!

Here is pix, and connector layout. By my tired old eyeballs, it would go as follows on conector C491:
pin 39 to pin 30
pin 40 to pin 38
pin 31 to pin 29
pin 32 to pin 37
pin 13 to pin 16
pin 21 to pin 8
pin 42 to pin 17
pin 41 to pin 9
See what you think on attached schematics.

When I upgraded mine over the winter, I just used the RCA jacks that came with the unit and a plug and play wire connector that converted the disco radio wiring harness to rca jacks. Mine runs through the factory amp and sounds great. No buzzing of other strange noises. On another note, I went with the double din option so I have xm and nav and it looks stock. Was a pita, and took two days, but well worth the extra effort. Definately get the wiring harness that plugs into the disco radio harness. There are two versions of this wiring harness. One is for using the amp that is built into your aftermarket radio and the other is for using the stock LR amp. It makes the wiring connections very simple. Getting a double din radio in the dash, well...that's another story. Good luck!
Yep, 491 is the harness. I had the other diagram with me there, but was having a hard time figuring what was what. Seems like more wires. So, if I just cut that harness and splice the wires together at the cut, that should be good, right? To me, it looks like both inbound and outbound wires are together?
Wilson, do you have a link for the harness? I looked around but didn't see anything. Mine came with a harness that plugged into new unit and right into the LR harness from Crutchfield.
I got mine from autotoys.com. It is #9790. Worked great. just plug it in. I think I got the steering wheel control thing from them too. I am assuming that your radio has the rca jacks in the back for using an amp? If it doesn't then this part won't work.
Yep, has the RCA jacks. Thanks,I will look into that one.
