Default Can you identify these?

Hi,

I noticed thoe two "J" shaped bent tubes when changing my plugs and wires.

They come up from behind the engine on the right hand side (left facing engine) close to the tranny dipstick tube (you can see one on each side)

Are these breather tubes or should they be connected somewhere?

Thanks for your help

Yes.
The point down so water cant get back in.
They are shaped like the trap on the drain under your sink, air gets out, nothing gets back in.

Is it possible for them to get plugged? Is there a check valve at the other end of these?

Yes, they get plugged. There is no check valve, but the breather hole is so small, it takes next to nothing for sludge to clog them. The front and rear axles have the same type of vent. I have to remove and clean the rear at least every 3-4 months.
