I'm really trying to let you guys run this place by yourselves without my help!

Seriously I've been Bimmer poisoned, I'll never recover. On the hunt for one for myself now that I've fixed my sons. They're built extremely well and are a drivers car, the feel. The Rover is getting long in the tooth, sneaking up on 200k. No issues but she's gonna need a freshening up. I've been looking at X5's lately. A couple of years ago I was coming home from my brothers place and it was snowing toboggans and tractor inner tubes and an X5 blew past me like I was rear wheel drive on bald tires, that impressed me. So guess what I'm looking for....... I'm over the I gotta drive over every rock pile in the woods thing.

I'm a big fan of BMW. When I worked in a garage years ago the local dealer started sending all of their customers with vehicles older than about 7 years to us, because their service center was too small to hire enough technicians to keep up with the volume of cars they were selling.

Anyway, they seemed to be as well built and reliable as Toyotas and Hondas, and the parts prices where much higher than the Japanese stuff, especially for the 3s and 5s. If I could find a late 80s 325i for cheap I'd strongly consider it. It seems to prices on those has been going WAY up these days though.

My wife drives a 07 X3, actually just purchased it, sold my nicely built FJ Cruiser for a more family friendly vehicle. The back doors and windows just suck for kids in the cruiser. The X3 is really nice! Especially if you get a 07+ with the 3.0SI motor, its pretty quick with a 6 speed auto and handles like a 3 series car. I didn't like the X5, it was the same size interior, just bigger outside. Same motor = less mpg, worse handling and much slower.

The X5 also has a 4.4L V8, that's the one to shoot for. Who cares about gas mileage, we own Rovers don't we? I want skinny pedal action!

The 4.4V8 has better results in the BMWs than they do in the Range Rover, but they still have expensive problems sometimes. Some very costly to repair oil leaks and maybe timing chain/vvt issues?

And if it's got the 5 speed ZF transmission, that can be another problem.
