Catalytic converter stolen
So a couple weeks back one of my cats were cut off in the night. Super annoying. So, I ran it down to the muffler shop to see about a repair. It was going to take a couple days to get the converter and patch it in, so I had the shop cut off my other one and weld in test pipes to get me by until I could get the right parts.
This is where it gets interesting. I was expecting an engine code and poor fuel economy because that’s the common idea. No light. No code. Good fuel economy. Hmm. I guess my ecu doesn’t care.
BTW, it’s a ‘99 D1 V8

My 95 & 97 D1's both have the cats removed. Both had cheap aftermarket units on them when I bought them & both failed shortly after buying them. The 97 is my main off road D1 so I had them removed. It will only set 2 faults for O2 sensors after idling for a decent amount of time. The 95 only has 2 O2 sensors and never sets a fault. I have noticed improved HP, throttle response, and I lIve in a non OBD2 part of TX.
Sorry but with the way people are stealing them I have no plans on re-installing cats on my D1's.

The catalytic was stolen from my ‘99 and I’m debating if I can go catless since I’m in FL. This thread really helps, but wondering if the O2 will get triggered. Thought?
another issue is that the anti-theft alarm isn’t letting me turn the car on and I can’t find the code. Has that happened to anyone? I called LR USA and they said to take it to the dealer to have them get the code, so I need to tow it there. I’m hoping they’ll get it fixed and I can get the car started again

I deleted my 98 d1 cats years ago, I welded the down steam o2 bungs shut and welded a sleeve and nut there, screwed in the downstream o2 and all good no codes, i know ive seen people claim the used the spark plug non fouler extensions so as not to modd the pipe but I couldn't find ones with correct threads
