Have same problem on one of my rear doors, some lubricant helped, but still not 100%. Removing door panel may require replacing some of the plastic "things" that hold it on. Be sure to use an upholstery tool (looks like pry bar - they sell at auto parts stores) or you risk tearing the foam plastic that is the back side of the door panels. If you download the RAVE set of tech manuals, the Body Repair Manual has a great deal of info on this in section 76, starting on page 8. There is actually a mechanical adjustment for rear side lock and handle on page 10.

Can be, I replaced mine and still have to manually unlock, I think my linkage is binding somewhere. Too many bigger fish to fry at the moment on my truck.

If you hit the button to lock or unlock the doors and they work then it is the actuator, sometimes it can be lubed, sometimes it will need to be replaced.

Had the same problem on my 96...replaced the actuator and it didnt help. It ended up being a broken spring in the door latch itself. There's a guy on ebay that makes replacement springs who is in the UK. I ordered a set for the whole truck for $30 shipped and the locks work great now. I'll try to find the thread with the link...
