Well, you gotta buy oil every week or so, might be worth the trip. I live 10 miles from Egypt (there really is an Egypt, Ga), and the nearest parts store is 15 miles plus away. Point is that parts stores do this for free, repair shops charge for it. You can buy a basic scanner and it is a valuable troubleshooting tool. But auto parts place is a cheap solution. Before spending $75 - $150 on a scanner, find out what this problem is, you might be needing an expensive part.

Ok, so when the rover was in the shop getting the new brake pads and a brake fluid flush, I asked the mechanic to scan for a code to see why the check engine light was on. He came back and said that it was the O2 sensors. Before I break down and buy some new ones, he's going to replace the fuel filter and the spark plugs to see if the code pops back up, hoping it's something minor like bad emissions, rather than bad sensors.
