Take your time and do a tiny tiny wiggle of the **** to loosen any possible crud.
Than position the **** where you can get the best finger grip and pull it straight off. Be somewhat gentle because it is plastic.
I tried the pull and wiggle again with no luck at all and began to think someone had glued them down, so i decided to accept some risk and used a grafting knife to gently- gently, pry them off.
I placed the edge of the blade in the gap and rotated the **** to sit perpendicular to the blade.
Then i grabbed the **** from the opposite side and began wiggling back and forth. Eventually, the additional leverage paid off and all three *****, plus the fan slide all came off with no scratches and in one piece!
Just pulled mine apart to replace the heater fan switch. I used a pair of needle nose pliers, grabbed hard enough not to slip and they popped right off.
I used the same flat knife blade and wiggle technique and the slider **** also came off with gentle assistance. i was a little concerned about using the face plate for leverage, so i stuck my finger between the blade flat and the face plate.
I did discover that the plastic dash is rather brittle. In the opening where the radio sits, both left and right "wings" broke off with only mild handling. I ended up reinforcing both sides with fiberglass and am considering a few more areas before they break. Fiber glass worked very well and can now support a radio DIN cage. - keep acetone close at hand to wipe up drips that might be visible.
