The story continues...

I started looking for a y-pipe replacement, because I thought my passenger side cat was bad because of a code p0430. As I was driving back from the muffler shop, checking prices, the CEL light went off and the codes cleared themselves.

Since my state emission inspection was due, I immediately took the D1 to the inspection station and it passed!

I assumed because I was getting the p0430, my passenger cat was bad. But now its looking OK. What can cause an intermittent P0430? I have been having some intermittent overheating problems that I am working to resolve. Can that cause a p0430?

I thought that once a code was set, it would take a while (number of miles, etc.) for the code to reset? Correct? Does that mean I don't have a bad cat, but an overheating issue causing the codes?

As for your first question, some have reported with over 250k on their DI.
Mine is a daily driver until it is no longer a daily driver and I have no idea when that will be but I suspect it will be a very very long time from now.

As for the CEL, are you loosing coolant? If it is going downstream and getting into the cat it can set off a code.

I have not replaced my exhaust yet as I dont have the funds and that is low on the priority list.
I did patch my muffler though with banding strap, the truck is quieter but still needs a new exhaust.
