Default coolant temp readings

had this happen while driving yesterday before wheeling

the UG was going wacky 188 then 192 then 201 then 198 then 202 then 195.8 seemed to settle there with the a/c off there is no friggin way I am still having problems later on trail riding no a/c it was jumping 185 to 192 and I mean all the numbers above it was literally jumping from one to the next no gradual increase or decrease, do I just have a bad temp sender for gauge? do I have a short?

the dash gauge has not gone above 8'oclock since I burped it after the head gasket job

any ideas?

I have noticed similar with my D1 and a scanner, the numbers jump 2-3 degrees on a refresh. I attribute this not to a sudden change in temp, but in the electronics of the ECU that uses analog to digital conversion and pumps those digits to the OBDII port. The UG is just the display. I suspect that the ECU has a lot of things to think about and compute, and sometimes cental processor time is sliced off to more important things for a few moments. Just like your computer can be fast or slow doing the same tasks depending on what is going on in the background processes.

That said, the electrical connector atop the two wire coolant sensor could be cleaned up and the prongs of the sensor degunkified. It is the one on the right.

Or you could have been within wifi range of a stealership, with new engine codes being downloaded and programmed to appear just before next payday. Their range is impressive. On the new vehicles could be part of the SAT NAV.

I pass directly in front of at least 1 rover dealer enroute to va when I go, can't say I have ever noticed the cell tower, like I said the crap gauge on the dash is rock solid at 8 once warmed up, I just find it real hard to believe after all this I would still have temp issues, need to look and see if I have a spare to try

I also noticed that my speedo is 5 fast, ug and my gps both match so guess the speedo is poo somehow do these run off a cable and gear like older cars or some vss?

Nope, the vehicle speed sensor makes pulses which a module in the speedo counts.

my Bluetooth obd2 will bounce a few degree as well. especially when im driving in a inconsistent manner (wheeling/driving up a mountain, traffic ect). it only bounces 2-4 degrees. Your temps are at a great reading. Id be happy that is warms up and cools normally and no high temps. 179-206 all smiles!

As for the speedo issue. My gps and obd2 match and my analogue gauge (dash) is off by 5mph simply because of my tire size.

happy trailing!!

If you have a stock thermostat. If you have a 180 then it would be a tad high on the highway.

Yep, more air flow than the stock fan at idle.
