Cool ...crossing fingers

I have 2 wishes with this post........
1. that I dont jinx the results.
2. that it will help someone in the future.

I had been chasing a dreaded "P1176" code for a while...."FMFR correction at maximum positive value" I try to keep this truck in as good a state of tune as financially possible( while I wait for my new Defender , YEAH RIGHT lol) so it gets regular oil changes, plugs every year, wires every other yr, clean t-body and intake, new air filter every yr, all 4 o2's are new within the last year, and generally seems to run pretty good . So here comes this code and it may appear all day long or go away with the next start up, or clear it at night aftr I'm done driving and it will stay off for a week or so and the it's back and driving conditions dont appear to be a factor. This code seems to indicate that the MAF has gone to it's limit and as you know D1 mafs ain't cheap. A year ago I had bought a used one just for a spare...and decided to put it on now......no difference. I tyred to evaluate the wiring to the maf and all appeared ok. Several techs who I trust told me to just buy a new one, I spoke with a young LR tech who said that although the dealer he works for usually replaces the maf.....he highly reccommended cleaning it with " CRC MAF cleaner". Well.....15 squirts (of cleaner) & 600+ miles later......no P1176. And for what it's worth...there was a lot of black residue that came out of it.

I have cleaned mine with good results. You may want to check the connector and the wiring around it. Mine was sagging and adding strain and I got an 1179. I think you know what AMFR means.... anyway, mine has been off as well. I have a spare and regularly clean mine. If you are careful and do it right, they will take it.

Buy CRC MAF cleaner.
Cross your fingers, wish upon a star and clean away.
Then go buy a lotto ticket and if you loose your truck will be fine.
If you win...send me half.

Danny, I've done (3) of mine - 96RR, 97DI, spare, I've used several different non-residue cleaners.

I ended up spraying mine with MAF cleaner (spray the crap out of it when it's NOT hot)

That's been (3) years, still haven't needed my spare.

luck,greg

or you could check fuel pressure and also for air leaks like a pcv hose.

the directions on the can say 10-15 sprays.......if you look at the maf from the screen side you will see a round plastic tube in the center...spray the hell out of the center of that tube. FWIW mine started out just looking like a" black hole" but after the miracle spray I could actually see the gizmo in the center of it. I read a post on another forum once about drilling out the rivets that hold it together and really cleaning out that way...but at this point I'm not sure that would matter ( might just make it worse).

Make sure it is totally dry after cleaning before you install it and run the truck. That is the most important thing. Sorry I haven't checked back in a while. But everything else is covered. Only clean it cold and the part to get is in the middle...
