Default D1 condenser fan motors replacement

If anyone is interested in replacing their D1 condenser fan motors. I just did my 98 D1. Cost $34US each for the parts, plus shipping.

1996 Toyota Corolla A/C Condenser Fan Motor 88550-12130

This condenser fan motor (96 Toyota Corolla) is an exact fit minus the drain tube, so you can use the same D1 fan blades and housing. The wires will have to be spliced together as the connector is different for the toyota vs LR.

Good post. Important note - splice wires so fans blow from grille toward engine. My PO got it reversed, and at idle I would overheat, as the condenser fan air was being "subtracted" from the radiator air flow. Of course, being the off-duty village idiot, I changed thermostat, fan clutch, radiator... before finding this.

Stephen....Why did you replace that fan? What were the problems you were having. Just curious. Savannah, I'm confused are you talking about the condenser fan or fan clutch fan...or both.

Just FYI this is already a part of the tech section. Part number is listed as well.

Hi SlanginSanJaun,

The fans motors I replaced are the two that sit in front of the radiator (the AC condenser fans- if you look through the grill you see 2 fan units). The problem that I was experiencing was my D1 was overheating in stop and go traffic and on very hot days as these fan. I would turn the AC off to get the temperature down. The fans are suppose to come on when the AC is on to increase air flow through the condenser and radiator, they will also stay on for a couple of minutes if the vehicle is very hot after your turn the vehicle off.

I'm having the same overheating problem but I don't think it's the AC fan. I need to go through the checklist again. Very discouraging.

26 Oct 2018 - an update - my D1 started overheating again at 180k miles. Had new water pump installed and system back flushed.
But I now notice that one condenser fan has stopped working, which I am going to replace. So a $34 part lasted 8 years, today's cost is $36.55. Not too bad.

Do a search for the mod to be able to turn on just the A/C fans on a separate switch, great for wheeling low speeds to keep the engine temps down.

dont forget these are notorious for having crap stuck in the radiator fins or even the fins themselves rotting out causing poor cooling. Both conditions are not easy to see without removing everything around the radiator.
