Default Viscous Fan

Recently, I had to take off the Viscous fan to repair a coolant leak. After I put it back on, I notice that the fan runs even on start up. Is it supposed to?

Thanks
Reza

Concur with Dusty.
Running loud on startup means you have a GOOD fan.
A bad fan will not do that.

Unless it continues to be loud, which means your fan is no longer viscous coupled, it has failed and stuck. When coud, spin and release fan, should not spin but 1/2 to 1/4 turn. Do again when warmed up, should still feel like peanut butter inside, and not spin more than 1 revolution when released. Freewheeling means clutch is toast, fluid is with Elvis. Now the electric fan on radiator should always spin freely. And should operate at the temps and conditions stated in the RAVE shop manual specifications pages. The D1 electric fans fun whenever AC is on, the D2 has different program and wiring.

Is an aftermarket clutch ok for this?
On sale for $80 at BPU instead of $295 for LR.

what year? 03-04 are one piece clutch and fan.
if it is 99-02 that fan will work there is also a chevy fan you can get locally that works for $40.00. you just have to open up the 4 holes.

'03 - Good Point. And DAMN. That's $385
I guess it's a good idea if I'm doing the rest of the system - radiator, pump, hoses, etc...
