So I have discovered a mouse problem and looking for some ideas in figuring out where they are getting in and what to clean out. I looked all around and cant seem to figure out where the mouse could have gotten in, so any ideas would be appreciated! I have a 96 D1 NAS V8, it has a cabin air filter in tact. The mice got into the glove box, shown pics. I did not find the body, but I am really hoping that it escaped out of the car and didnt die behind the dash. Other than maybe taking the blower motor out and cleaning it, is there anything else I should clean? And any ideas how this thing got inside? Thanks! There was an awful smell when the blower was operating but not too bad when it was off.
They're going to get in no matter what you do, best thing to do is have a little poison bait for em. That way they won't be chewing anything up for long. I have bait blocks that work pretty good, can find them at most stores like Tractor Supply, Blains, Lowes, Home Depot. I've had a problem with those and Chipmunks. I once had a Chipmunk burn rubber across a gas station, he went for a ride in my frame and popped out when I stopped for fuel.
I've heard that a few strategically placed dryer sheets will not only help with the smell, it will dissuade them from making a home in the same spot again. I'd set a few traps outside the vehicle and hopefully you can eliminate the problem before they get in. As mentioned, they will find a way in.
I put a small trap in a shoebox (inside showbox to prevent the trap from going off when driving, turning corners etc.) and put it in the rear of the truck. The trap was baited with peanut butter.
You'll want to deal with this sooner rather than later because if they start chewing on wires you will be the last to know what was once working may not be when you go to turn it on.
Thanks everyone! This is a curious problem though because we have lots of cars that sit a lot more than the rover and never had a mouse get into anything. They usually stick to eating more expensive things, like boats and tractors. I dont even know how it could have gotten in there. But I will do the old spice soap trick and try my best to keep them away. Might just have to park it in the shed through winter if I cant keep them out. Was hoping there was somewhere that was common and I could put a grate over it or something.
