D1 radiator replacement
Hey guys, I'm getting ready to replace the radiator on my 97 d1. Does anyone have any tips, or info on pulling the old one out? I could really use some help. Thanks in advance.
It's not a hard job to do at all. This will help...

I don't know the mileage on your rig, but I would change the thermostat, coolant hoses, and coolant bottle cap at the same time.
Also consider the drive belt, tensioner, fan clutch, and water pump. It's all money well spent.

170k miles. I almost have it off now, everything except the bottom hose on the passenger side. I decided to dive in after I posted. I would love to replace the entire cooling system, but is near impossible at this time as I'm a student. I can probably swing a new thermostat though. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out and make sure I've done everything right.
Definitely do a fan clutch, I did on my rig with 160K and it brought temps down from 210+on my ultra gauge to 185ish.
Check the tech section, there is a good write up about using a chevy fan. I used the heavy duty on one car and regular duty on the other and both run at the same temps, butte heavy Duty is MUCH louder.
Oh, yeah, I got my thermostat at Atlantic British, they said there was only on option. Make sure the small hole is at the 12 o'clock position.
Good luck

Is the chevy fan clutch a "bolt-on" deal, or does it require any mods? I'm literally working on this thing on the street in front of my house with a crescent wrench and channel locks lol. It's not running hot, it's just leaking antifreeze.
Again check the write up in the tech section. The only mod is you have to bore the holes out on your fan like 1mm to get the chevy bolts to fit. I bought mine at Autozone and it came with the bolts(Pep boys had one but no bolts).
The regular duty fan part number is:
922626
Alternate part number:
215157
$44.99
Comes with a lifetime warranty. You should rent a Fan pulley holding tool and a fan clutch wrench, 39mm. It will make it a lot easier to do the job.

Where is it leaking antifreeze from? The radiator or the overflow tank? If you have a black tank those are crap, get the white/milky color one.
Also the stock gauge will not tell you its hot until its too late. It only shows cold, Right temp, and I just fried my motor.
I almost blew a head gasket looking at the stock gauge.
