Finally the new rear door wiper motor was delivered and installed. Excellent he is working, so the fault wasn’t in the fusebox control unit under the dashboard.
But…the inside “threads” in the wiper head are very bad worn, so the arm falls down every time the spindle is rotating. I’ll buy a new wiper arm.
End there is a gap between the wiper arm head and the spindle nut. Is this normal ? Or is there a spacer missing ?
Thanks in advance !
Much greetings,
PierroDisco from Belgium
Gap between wiper arm cap and spindle nut ?
Has someone experience on this ? Someone with good advice ?
(note: the rear wiper arm details on the D2 are quite different !p
Could you please send me a kind of picture from that thick gasket ?
Anyway that gasket is not explecitely mentioned in my Haynes “Service and Repair Manual”.
But, when looking closer to your picture -thanks fir it, your Disco is missing the nut which press the thin washer against de grommet on the spindle ; and this nut (see my picture) is mentioned and described in many repair and maintain publications about the Disco 1 !
So I’m thinking : because these nut is missing on your Disco, someone has filled the gaping with this ?
And, yes, firmly lock the nut which secures the wiper arm on the spline from the spindle : by used arms, you can see clearly the splines made visible grooves in the round hole in the arm ; by new arms the round hole is without grooves. Otherwise the arm can slip.
And another little point to mention : the rear door wiper blade is mentioned “55 cm” in the owners guide, while the standard wiper blade is “60 cm” in many car shops. That involves a larger surface to scrape -more power needed, so the very slight rounding of the rear door glas can influence the cleaning working from the wiper blade ?
It was all a complete unit, I was just taking parts off I thought I made need for the one I drive. I have a few others , I will look and see if they all have the rubber spacer.
