After much headache (and apparently bad luck) I've managed to at least get the rear window wiper switch working. It turns out that my issue seems to be a combination of bad switches, and some other electrical issue whereby some electronics in the car only seem to work after the car has been running for a couple of minutes (notably the rear window wiper, and rear window open/close). So, the factory new switch I got from Land Rover actually works, but only after the car has been running for a couple of minutes...I'm thinking this may have something to do with the control unit behind the glove box, since I understand the rear windows not working is a common problem due to pporly soldered joints. However, mine work, but only after the ar has been on for a couple of minutes...very strange. More to come..stay tuned.

 

Just out of curiosity, do you remember how the cleaning went on the rear window wiper switch? I took all of my dash switches apart and cleaned and used some dielectric grease when re-assembling. The rear wiper doesn't work (don't know for sure that it did before or not, unfortunately didn't check ahead of time. The rear wiper has a weird thin wire that seems to "float" and I'm not sure I handled it right. I didn;t remove it and it swings freely when I assemble, but once it's back together I can't see anymore. The plug seems to have power on at least some of the wires, so I don;t think it's a fuse or wiring.

ANyway, just curious what you did on this guy. I'd be for wiring in a simple toggle but I can;t seem to get it to work even if I jump the various wires.

 

I remember having some of the same issues - there was the thin wire and another small contact that came off when I was taking the switch apart... I was pretty careful when taking it apart too, but still these pieces came off. I'm pretty sure I was able to get them back together properly, but I'm not sure. After cleaning, I tested the switch and it didn't work - again I'm not sure if this was because I didn't put it back together correctly, or if the car hadn't been on long enough for it to work as I described in my earlier post. Honestly, what I would do is try to get a replacement switch on eBay rather than bothering with the cleaning and wondering if you messed something up...they can be had for $20-$30. The part number for the rear wiper switch is AMR3749. I recently picked up a replacement rear fog light switch on eBay also and it works great. I notice you're in the bay area also...may be worth a trip to one of the local pick-n-pulls.

 

Normally when I hit a junk yard/pick-n-pull I'd take an electricians tool bag with me (with tools in it) and grab all the switches, bulbs and other smalls I could stuff in my bag. I'd grab a few parts I had to pay for too.... just saying. If you still need a window ECU contact the guys in my signature, they both sell prime parts. Sorry I couldn't help you with the bypass, never needed to use it so no experience with it.

 

funny. I had posted above that I thought my rear wiper switch was busted, possibly by my own hand when trying to clean it, but sure enough it started working after I had been driving for a while. I’ll see if I can tie it to something but for now just knowing it will work after “warming up” is good enough for me.

I think I’m done with dash switches- many don’t work but I think they’re all related to the radio which was swapped with aftermarket.

 

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue. One day I might try to figure out why the car needs to warm up first, but for now it's good enough. I have replaced several switches around the dash now (and also A/C and air recirculate switches) with known working switches (after trying perhaps 2 or 3 different switches pulled from junkyards that were apparently also bad). Every known working switch I've installed has worked. Apparently the switches on these cars are just terrible.
